The NBA offseason has been quiet over the last few weeks but that changed over the weekend with Luka Doncic signing a massive extension with the Los Angeles Lakers and another major contract extension was handed out on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the San Antonio Spurs signed Fox to a four-year, $229 million extension on Monday that will keep the star point guard in San Antonio through the 2029-30 season.

Of course, the Spurs landed Fox at the trade deadline last season from the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade that saw the Kings land Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls.

This came after Fox made it known that he was not going to sign an extension in Sacramento this summer, leading the franchise to move on from him last season.

For Fox, he spent eight seasons with the Kings where he averaged 21.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 47.1% from the field and 33.3% from three.

The 27-year-old was a one-time All-Star and one-time All-NBA selection during his time with the Kings and he was also named the Comeback Player of the Year in 2023.

After trading the star guard last season, Sacramento struggled at the point guard position as they used both Malik Monk and Keon Ellis as replacements for Fox and while they did play well, they are not true point guards.

Because of this, the Kings made it a priority for them to land a new starting point guard this summer as they signed Dennis Schroder in free agency and they have also been linked to Russell Westbrook.

Of course, the Kings have now moved on from two top point guards with their trade of Fox last season along with them trading away Tyrese Haliburton to the Indiana Pacers in 2022 and while the Spurs have now locked up Fox for the future alongside Victor Wembanyama, the Kings are still searching for more point guard depth as they try to make the playoffs next season.
