The Nuggets could still use another piece or two this summer.
Nuggets urged to bring back 8-year veteran as Russell Westbrook replacement originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Denver Nuggets have arguably had the best offseason in the NBA, making multiple impressive moves. They traded for Cam Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas, while also signing Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr.
On paper, the Nuggets are arguably the best team in the NBA, a year after losing in seven games to the loaded Oklahoma City Thunder. Of course, the Nuggets will have to get past the Thunder to suggest that they’re the better team, but they look to be well-positioned to possibly do so.
But there's still more the Nuggets could do, and FanSided recently urged them to reunite with a fan favorite to do just that. Bailey Bassett of FanSided noted that the team should bring back Monte Morris, a veteran guard who has enjoyed some success in the NBA.
MORE: Where will former Nuggets star Russell Westbrook end up?
“The Nuggets' biggest weakness on their roster, as it stands, is the backup point guard position. Russell Westbrook had a resurgence of a season playing that role for Denver last year, but a return to the Nuggets now seems unlikely. Westbrook seems destined to join the Sacramento Kings, and he doesn't seem like a great fit alongside some of Denver's newest additions...
“Morris regularly finished in the top three in assist-to-turnover ratio during his Nuggets tenure. After some down seasons since, Morris could likely get back on track in a familiar home. Plus, Nuggets fans would love to bring back a staple of the team before they were champions. Maybe Denver could even win another ring with Morris on the roster,” they wrote.
As Bassett noted, Morris wouldn't precisely be a starter, or a big minute player at this stage of his career for a team like the Nuggets, but he could also be interested in being a backup guard, whether it be in the second or third unit.
