Texas Tech’s projected starting center Sheridan Wilson holds power being one of the Red Raiders’ returners. He’s working hard at his own game ahead of a critical 2025 season.

With a slew of transfers in the building, Sheridan Wilson holds significant power as Texas Tech’s projected starting center. A returner from a year ago, Wilson had a breakout year in 2024. He had plenty of growing pains last season, but is aiming to remain one of the Red Raiders’ most solid pieces.

“Last year I’d make a call, and then the front, the shift, and then I’d be talking and trying to make new things happen, and then Behren’s clapping, I’m snapping, and then I wouldn’t be ready,” Wilson told the media Tuesday. “So that’s what I’ve just been trying to focus on this year. This year I’m gonna make a call, the shift. We’re smart enough to figure it out on the fly. That’s just getting team reps within, that’s all it is.”

Sheridan Wilson, the mentor

Wilson holds a unique position this year as a now-seasoned veteran compared to the young pup. He’s even got two younger centers behind him– Colorado transfer Cash Cleveland and Lubbock product redshirt freshman Holton Hendrix. The three centers are developing strong camaraderie. This is giving Wilson hope for the future even after he’s gone.

“I mean, everyone’s awesome. I love all those guys. Cash is a guy, Holton’s the man. I think he’s gonna be a really, really good center,” Wilson added. “The whole line is awesome. Everyone that we brought in is great. I think this o-line this year is a lot closer than it was last year.”

When asked what he attributed this newfound closeness to, Wilson’s response was simple, yet powerful.

“Just bringing in the right guys. That’s all it is, guys who want to buy in. You know, who are ‘The Brand,’” he remarked.

The heat is on as kickoff approaches

The burners– literally and metaphorically– are being turned up higher by the day. As the practices get warmer and the countdown to kickoff winds down, anticipation steadily builds. The Red Raiders are on the cusp of one of the program’s most pivotal years ever. Rather than shy away from the outside noise, Wilson acknowledged it but remained solid in his belief in the team.

“Of course, people see it,” Wilson said. “We don’t really focus on the media too much. We really just focus on ourselves. We look around and we all know that we have a special team.”
