Low-key Wendall Moe established on Tennessee’s offensive front

On the offensive line, Tennessee went into the transfer portal in December looking for immediate help on the offensive interior.

The target was Arizona transfer Wendall Moe. Moe had just completed a season where he started 11 of 12 games, played 760 snaps without a penalty or giving up a sack.

Moe picked the Vols and he’s been off and running from day one. Moe immediately found himself running with the number one’s as he immersed himself into learning a new system.

“I have it down,” Moe said of the offense. “If you want to be a good player, you gotta learn the offense pretty fast and I’ve been focusing on it since I got here.”

Moe who played mostly left guard at Arizona has played both. He played over 100 snaps at right guard a year ago and is comfortable at either spot in the Tennessee offense.

“Wherever they need me to play, I will do it,” Moe said. “I like playing both sides really, but I will do whatever my coach wants me to do I’m going to do it.”

Moe’s work has gotten the attention of everyone as it’s his play that does his talking for him.

“The biggest personality is me, which is no personality,” Moe said smiling. “I’m just kind sitting there and just watch everybody do their thing.

“I’m a homebody so I pretty much just set up my house the way I like it. I love going home.”

The low-key Moe has impressed fellow low key personality in Tennessee offensive line coach Glen Elarbee from day one.

“Love some Wo-Wo. Guy plays physical. He was really quiet to start. He has a way of igniting everybody when he does let out passion,” Elarbee said. “But super physical in the run game. Highly intelligent. It’s crazy. It’s like football smart. Very, very similar to Coop in the fashion that he can understand what the defense is trying to do to him or like just has that sixth sense and how to react to it. Even looks that you can’t— you don’t get to coach every single look, but his just general reaction to things that happen are typically right.”

Added Moe, “Our defensive line likes to get after it every day. They like to work. They like to use their hands. They play low. You have to come in every day with he right mindset or they will get to the quarterback.

“I love going against Jaxson Moi everyday.  There’s kind of that mutual respect between Polynesians right there. We just try to compete with each other every day to get better.”
