NC State needed to bolster its bullpen in the transfer portal with its last few roster spots. It was able to do just that as Alabama right-handed pitcher Danny Heintz pledged to the Wolfpack.

Heintz, who didn’t appear in a game with the Crimson Tide this past spring, has one year of eligibility remaining.

Before his one year at Alabama, Heintz appeared in 30 games over his four-year career at the University of Pennsylvania, carrying a 7.45 ERA and a .272 batting average against in the process. He logged 38.2 innings with 33 runs (32 earned) on 40 hits with 55 strikeouts and 31 walks as he faced 189 batters with the Quakers.

The Morrisville, N.C., native logged a career-best 17 appearances during the 2022 campaign. As a sophomore, Heintz allowed 17 runs (16 earned) on 18 hits with 33 strikeouts and 18 walks.

While he was looking to build off his breakout second season at the collegiate level, Heintz made one appearance in 2023 before missing the rest of the season due to injury. He bounced back in 2024 with eight appearances, including one start.

The Quakers seemed to be careful with Heintz in his return, tossing 10.1 innings in his last full spring season. During the 2024 campaign, Heintz tossed five shutout outings, including two scoreless frames with four strikeouts and just one hit allowed against Harvard on April 28, 2024.

Before his collegiate career began, Heintz was a First Team All-Conference selection as a junior at Cary (N.C.) Green Hope High. His senior season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Heintz finished his high school career with a 1.87 ERA, 75 strikeouts and a .201 batting average against in 86 innings.

Heintz is NC State’s seventh transfer portal addition of the offseason. He joins incoming senior third baseman Wyatt Peifer (JMU), senior utility Dalton Bargo (Tennessee), junior outfielder Andrew Wiggins (Indiana), sophomore right-handed pitchers Collins Black (Duke) and Ryder Garino (South Carolina), and sophomore infielder Mikey Ryan (LSU).
