Discussions with the Uruguay international over personal terms are ongoing, according to Fabrizio Romano. Al-Hilal are optimistic of persuading Nunez to leave the Premier League for Saudi Arabia.
Liverpool have signed Hugo Ekitike to add to their attacking options this summer and remain keen to bring in Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
The decision has been made to let Nunez leave, despite an encouraging pre-season campaign. Nunez has scored five goals during the summer schedule but has endured three mixed campaigns at Anfield.
The 26-year-old joined Liverpool from Benfica for a deal that could reach £85m including add-ons. He has scored 40 goals in 143 games but fell out of favour under Arne Slot last season, starting just eight times in the Premier League.
Al-Hilal head coach Simone Inzaghi is keen to bring in Nunez as his second major signing from Europe this summer, after recruiting Theo Hernandez from AC Milan.
The potential arrival of Nunez could see former Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic leave Al-Hilal.
