Ajax have officially secured the signing of one of La Masia’s most promising young midfielders, Eloi Gomez.
The 16-year-old Spanish talent has joined the Dutch giants on a three-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2028.
Gomez, who was a key figure in Barcelona’s Cadet A side last season, will now join Ajax’s U17 squad as he begins a new chapter in Amsterdam.
Gomez made the switch after his contract with Barcelona expired in June. He was persuaded by Ajax’s sporting project and financial offer, which proved more attractive than the path available to him at Barça.
The main reason behind his departure appears to be the intense competition for midfield spots within both the youth and senior structures at the Catalan club.
With limited opportunities to climb the ranks at Barcelona, Gomez opted for a club where he could see a clearer route to first-team football.

Ajax sporting director Marijn Breuker expressed high hopes for the young Spaniard. Speaking on the club’s official website, he described Gomez as a classic Ajax-style playmaker.
“Eloi is a typical Ajax playmaker. He gets involved in the build-up, takes initiative on the ball, and enjoys attacking football.
“His football intelligence and technical quality allow him to move the ball quickly and link up play with just one or two touches,” Breuker said.
Gomez originally joined Barcelona from Gimnastic de Tarragona and quickly made an impression.
As a starting midfielder for the Cadet A side last season, he played a vital role in their system and was seen as one of the academy’s shining lights.
While Barcelona may regret losing such a promising player, Ajax have pulled off a smart acquisition, one that could shape their midfield in years to come.
