There truly is only one John Daly in the golf world. Fans across the sport love him not just for his ability but for a party-like personality that maybe more out there can relate to. Between having a few drinks or smoking a few cigarettes, Daly’s actions usually bring out the laughs.
Another example reemerged on Tuesday with Daly pulling off an incredible feat. A video emerged of Daly making an incredible chip with one hand. He held a wedge with his left, while a drink stayed steady thanks to the right hand.
This did come in the practice area but nonetheless, still amazing. Daly sank one of the chips and got a nice reaction from people looking on. “That’s unbelievable,” you can hear from the background, saying exactly what all of us are thinking.
You can check out the full video here, posted by Matt Couch, but is originally from 2024. “There’s only one [John Daly],” the caption read.
Daly is still active on the PGA Tour, getting onto the course on occasion. Eight starts this season have not yielded the best results. His top finish of the year came in early April at the James Hardie Pro-Football HOF Invitational, T-50. One withdraw is one there too, bowing out of the Regions Tradition after getting his first round underway — sitting at +2 and a 30 overall.
It’s a tournament he missed in favor of the PGA Championship. Daly explained why he decided to skip the major, a tournament he won back in 1991. A lifetime exemption comes for the winner, meaning he can get in the field whenever he wants. Instead, he decided to head down to Birmingham to play in the Regions Tradition.
“I can go there (PGA Championship) and miss the cut and get $6,000,” Daly told the Associated Press. “But I’m playing Birmingham. I love Regions. They’re a great sponsor. But why are they scheduling Regions the same week as the PGA Championship, where I can see Brooks (Koepka) and all the guys?”
Daly does not appear to be missing playing in big-time tournaments too often. Watching his son play, who is on the team at Arkansas, has become a part of the rotation too. Maybe another Daly will be getting involved in the PGA Tour before we know it. For now, all we can hope for is some more trick shots coming from Daly.
