The Fever had to work hard for that win.
Sophie Cunningham's Immediate Confession After Fever's Tough Win Against Storm originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever made it five in a row on Sunday with a tightly contested win against the Seattle Storm, 78-74. It was far from a straightforward win for Indiana, with Seattle making the Fever work hard for their fifth straight victory.
Sophie Cunningham came up big for the Fever in this one, and the 28-year-old had to come out with an honest confession immediately after the win.
Sophie Cunningham Goes Off Against Storm
This was a crucial victory for the Fever, who were still playing without the injured Caitlin Clark. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year sat out for a seventh straight contest due to a re-aggravated groin issue, and there is currently still no timetable for her return.
Cunningham has gotten the nod to start in all seven games that Clark has sat out. The veteran guard has stepped up as well, and Sunday’s performance was arguably Cunningham’s best outing of the season for Indiana.
The 28-year-old dropped a season-high 17 points against the Storm on 5-of-6 from the field. Cunningham caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down four triples, to go along with five rebounds and two assists in a team-high 33 minutes of action.
That’s now eight out of the last 10 games that Cunningham has scored in double figures for the Fever.
Cunningham Reacts to Big Win
The cameras caught Cunningham’s immediate reaction to Indiana’s hard-fought win, which saw two unrelenting sides battle it out until the end.
Cunningham breathed a sigh of relief as she confessed how much the win took out of her.
“Oh my gosh,” she said with a big smile on her face. “That one just aged me. But we’re getting better. Shoot. Good win!”
“That’s a PN-W!” 🗣️

It was, indeed, a great win for the Fever, who have now improved to 17-12 after Sunday’s victory. More importantly, they were able to overtake the Storm (16-13) in the standings and have now claimed the No. 5 spot in the WNBA.
Cunningham and the rest of the squad will want to keep the momentum going in their next game as they travel to California for a road game against the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday. That matchup at Crypto.com Arena will represent Indiana’s third matchup out of its current four-game road trip.
