“He’s probably about four weeks from being cleared for contact,” Miller said Tuesday. “He’s fine. You watch him, he can shoot. He can do everything other than take the chance, prematurely, of putting him out there against others.”
Last season in 29 games, Mark averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per contest. He shot 40.6% from the field, 34.6% from three, and 74.7% from the line. In his career at Houston, Arkansas, and Texas, Mark has averaged 11.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He has shooting splits of 42% from the field, 32.7% from three, and 78.7% from the line.
Mark, who functioned as the point guard for Rodney Terry’s team late in 2024-25, was one of the handful of Longhorns that Miller retained after arriving from Xavier, and viewed Mark, Jordan Pope, Nic Codie, and Chendall Weaver sticking around as a major positive.
“I do think one thing that was very helpful for me was they just finished competing against the team that I coached,” Miller said in May. “Our team. Part of a young person’s questioning in the beginning is style of play. They had a good sense, whether they liked it or not, they had a feel through scouting and through playing that game of how we play, the pace we play at, how it felt. I was able to describe our style through that, and it just happened as well. That’s the uniqueness of Xavier and Texas playing so late in the season.”
Texas opens the season on November 4 in Charlotte, N.C. against the Duke Blue Devils as part of the Dick Vitale Invitational. The home opener is Saturday, November 8 against Lafayette.
