On Tuesday, the WNBA announced that former South Carolina women’s basketball star Aliyah Boston had won the league’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week award. Riding a streak of six consecutive double-doubles, the Indiana Fever post player dominated last week, leading the Fever to three wins, extending the team’s streak to five victories in a row.

Boston averaged 16.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and two steals per game to bring home the honor. She also shot 54.5% from the field and knocked down 14 free throws. For the year, Boston is now averaging 15.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, one steal, and one block per game. She has 15 overall double-doubles this season.

Thanks in large part to Boston’s play, the Fever own the fifth-best record in the WNBA. That mark comes despite the fact that star guard Caitlin Clark has missed more than half of the team’s games. In her absences, Boston has helped keep Indiana afloat. Assuming a healthy Clark return gives the Fever one of the league’s top one-two punches, Indiana has the fourth-best odds to win a WNBA Championship (per BetMGM), a notion that would have seemed extremely far-fetched this offseason.

Boston’s strong play comes as no surprise. For the third Summer in a row, she earned a spot in the WNBA All-Star Game starting lineup. That means she has been one of the league’s best players ever since the Fever selected her with the first overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft. The third-year pro also has her team on pace for their best season in a decade. A postseason trip will mark back-to-back playoff appearances for the franchise for the first time since 2015 and 2016.
