Whitefish Bay Little League teams fall short in bids to make more baseball history

Two baseball teams in the Whitefish Bay Little League program saw their seasons end in some lofty places.

The Whitefish Bay Little League 12-year-old baseball team dropped a heartbreaker in Whitestown, Indiana, on Aug. 4, falling 2-1 to a team from Eldridge, Iowa, ending their bid for a trip to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Eldridge scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and final inning for a 2-1 victory to stay alive in the Midwest Regional tournament. Bay also lost to a team from Fargo, North Dakota, 3-2, and defeated a team from Kearney, Nebraska, 13-5.

The Midwest Region features teams from eight states. The state of Wisconsin has never sent a team to the 12-year-old Little League World Series. It was the first time a 12-year-old team from Whitefish Bay had reached the regional level.

Wisconsin had never sent a team to the 13-year-old Intermediate World Series either … until this year.

The Whitefish Bay 13-year-old team that made that showcase in Livermore, California, went 1-3 overall, starting with a 7-0 win over a team from Freehold, New Jersey, on July 27.

Craig Counsell Park in Whitefish Bay is host to the town's Little League baseball games.

But Whitefish Bay's rally fell short in a 5-4 loss to a team from New Orleans on July 27, and then a squad from Irmo, South Carolina, handed the Blue Dukes a 10-3 loss on July 29.

The Flor Amarillo Little League team from Valencia, Venezuela, eventually won the title, defeating the U.S.-winning Central East Maui program from Wailuku, Hawaii, in the final, 12-7.
