The New York Liberty will host the Seattle Storm on Sunday inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

However, Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello told NY Post women’s sports reporter Madeline Kenney on Saturday that center Jonquel Jones will remain away from the team with an ankle injury. Brondello noted that Jones is not expected to return before the WNBA All-Star break from July 18-22.

“If we can get her back after the All-Star break, that’s still a win, isn’t it? Because it was supposed to be in August,” Brondello said.

Jones’ loss has profoundly impacted the Liberty’s offense and could continue heading into their next four games, leading up to the All-Star game in Indiana. Jones has averaged 12.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.1 blocks in nine games.

She was listed as out for four to six weeks after spraining her ankle against the Phoenix Mercury on June 19, according to an ESPN report from the day the injury happened. Jones' injury occurred during the second quarter when she attempted a layup but landed on Mercury guard Sami Whitcomb’s foot.

Jones seemed visibly uncomfortable as she held her ankle on the ground before being helped off the court with 8:55 remaining in the first half. Since her departure, the Liberty has won two of its last four games.

Meanwhile, they will play the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday, the Atlanta Dream on July 13 and the Indiana Fever on July 16. Tip-off for the Storm and Liberty game on Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
