There is a miscommunication at the heart of the standoff between Ademola Lookman and Atalanta over the player’s desire to join Inter Milan.
Italian broadcaster SportMediaset report, via FCInterNews, that the 27-year-old’s agents believed Atalanta promised they’d sell him to any club, whilst La Dea took for granted that this would include within Serie A.
Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has spent the past few days trying to force his club’s hand on a transfer to Inter Milan.
The Nigerian international had responded to Atalanta’s rejection of Inter’s second offer by scrubbing all traces of his current employers from his social media accounts.
Then, yesterday Lookman took things several steps further. The 27-year-old made a public transfer request.
And today, Lookman no-showed Atalanta’s training session. He is making absolutely crystal clear what he wants.

The root of the tension between Lookman and Atalanta concerns the fact that the player believes that his club have promised him a transfer this summer.
This after La Dea had refused to sell the Nigerian to Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
And indeed, Atalanta have made a promise to Lookman behind the scenes, reports SportMediaset.
The broadcaster note that there is indeed an informal agreement that Atalanta will listen to offers and try to facilitate a sale.
However, La Dea CEO Luca Percassi claimed today that Atalanta consider this agreement invalid for teams in Serie A.
Mediaset report that this is ultimately a misunderstanding between Atalanta and the representatives of Lookman.
Atalanta assumed that it was virtually implied that they would not treat offers from Italian clubs the same as those from outside of Serie A.
However, Lookman and his representatives have instead agreed terms with Inter. And their stance is that La Dea should honour the agreement by accepting a bid from the Nerazzurri.
