The Boston Celtics are going to have to make adjustments while going through a financial burden in the 2025 NBA offseason.
Boston was on the verge of facing penalties for exceeding the NBA's second apron of the luxury tax. With this being said, the Celtics had to part ways with top-paid players like Kristaps Porzingis (traded to the Atlanta Hawks) and Jrue Holiday (traded to the Portland Trail Blazers) to make salary space.
The Celtics have also lost Luke Kornet to the San Antonio Spurs and are on the verge of losing Al Horford in free agency. The veteran big man is rumored to be signing with the Golden State Warriors.
With players departing and Jayson Tatum potentially missing the entire 2025-26 season, the Celtics will need to make roster adjustments to maintain their winning ways.
Boston has an interest in free agent big man and Summer League standout Charles Bassey. Despite showing interest in playing overseas, Bassey has changed his mind and wants to continue playing in the NBA. Specifically with the Celtics.
"Bassey would especially love to sign with the Celtics if the opportunity presented itself, sources said. How realistic that might be remains to be seen," Noa Dalzell of the Boston Blogreported.
Bassey was a second-round pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2021. After just one year in Philly, he would spend his next three with the San Antonio Spurs before entering free agency this offseason.
He was able to be a late addition to the Celtics' Summer League roster and showed that he is worth a roster spot on an NBA team. In three games this summer, Bassey averaged 15.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and shot 70.4% from the field.
