Bruno Fernandes has admitted he wants Manchester United to sign more quality players this summer.

Fernandes impressed with his performance in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Everton in the Premier League Summer Series.

He opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but the game ended in a draw after a late own-goal from Ayden Heaven.

The friendly saw United’s newest signing Bryan Mbeumo make his debut for the club after arriving at Old Trafford in a deal worth up to £71 million.

Fernandes praised the Red Devils’ work in the transfer market so far, but admitted they need to add more new faces to the squad.

“It’s improving,” Fernandes said in his post-match intervew. “It [the club] is not in the place it has to be, obviously.

“I don’t want to take a dig at anyone, but I think the club is doing the best that it can in terms of the financial situation that they talk about. I don’t know about it; I am not involved in that!

“Obviously it was crystal clear that we needed more competition for the players that were here; we need more quality to get everyone to step up a little bit more, to have more to do to get into the first XI.

“I think that is what the club is trying to do, and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that.”

Manchester United have been busy in the 2025 summer transfer window, as they have already completed the signings of Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo.

The Red Devils are now chasing a deal for Benjamin Sesko but face huge competition from Newcastle United.

Newcastle had a £70m bid rejected for Sesko, with RB Leipzig also braced for an approach from United.

Ruben Amorim’s side have spent almost £130m this summer, and so they may need to make sales to bring in more players.

Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on loan, while they are open to offers for Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund.
