Chris Gotterup, the former CBA and Rutgers standout, goes into golf's playoffs looking to continue his breakout season.
Having established himself as one of the top young golfers in the world over the past month, Little Silver’s Chris Gotterup heads into the PGA Tour’s FedExCup Playoffs with a chance to win a championship.
The 26-year-old Gotterup will be in the field at this week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, the first of three playoff events that conclude with the Tour Championship in Atlanta Aug. 21-24.
Gotterup, who won the Scottish Open last month before finishing third at the British Open, is in his second season on the PGA Tour, with the former Rutgers star finishing No. 23 in year-long FedExCup points race, qualifying for the postseason for the first time.
The top 70 players in the points standings are eligible for the playoffs, featuring a progressive cut with fields of 70 (FedEx St. Jude Championship), 50 (BMW Championship) and 30 (TOUR Championship).
The FedExCup bonus distribution total is $100 million, with the champion earning $10 million.
Gotterup, who won a Shore Conference Tournament title playing for CBA, has had a breakout season in 2025, with nearly $3.9 million in earnings so far. It brings his career earnings to $5.7 million, having won twice.
One of the most impressive stats is that he’s fourth overall in scoring average at 69.2. He’s also one of the longest hitters on Tour, ranking No. 9 in driving distance at 316.3 yards, and ranks second in greens in regulation.
With a good showing in the playoffs, Gotterup could earn himself a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup squad, which takes on the European team at Bethpage Black on Long Island in September.
