This is a fascinating take.
Shedeur Sanders missed Saturday's Cleveland Browns practice with what was called soreness in his throwing arm.
One former NFL quarterback thinks that could actually mean something else for the Colorado Buffaloes star who went in the fifth round, pick No. 144 overall, to Cleveland.
Here's what Kurt Benkert wrote on X:
This is what they do before a trade https://t.co/exY2otcuJq

Benkert, who played for the Packers briefly, doesn't go on to explain his logic, leaving it up to all of us to figure out what he means.
Likely, he's centering around the idea that certain narratives get started to advance certain causes.

If Sanders is hurt, and therefore a bit out of the running for the Browns' QB depth chart, maybe the best option is to trade him.
That way, it doesn't seem as much like the Browns are cutting their losses on a guy they just drafted less than four months ago.
If Benkert means something else, maybe he'll resurface on X and explain himself.
Sanders' injury is certainly unfortunate timing, because he'd been playing pretty well in training camp. Hopefully for his sake, he can get back on the field soon.

It's tough enough to be in a four-man competition with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel, even without an injury.
There's still a month to go here, and a slate full of preseason games. Maybe a trade does come down the line.
But it'd be a lot more interesting if Sanders first got to see preseason action for Cleveland and show what he can do in a game setting. From there, the Browns will have plenty of decisions still to make on the Colorado great, the Oregon star Gabriel and the two veterans Flacco and Pickett.
