Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith did not forget his performance against Texas last time, and he is ready to start off strong.
Jeremiah Smith Keeps Receipts Ahead of Texas Rematch originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Last season, the Ohio State Buckeyes took home the College Football Playoff national championship with a win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
To get there, Ohio State defeated the Tennessee Volunteers, Oregon Ducks and then the Texas Longhorns, respectively, before beating the Irish in the title game.
However, the 28-14 CFP semifinal win over Texas left a sour taste in the mouth of star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.
The Buckeyes' superstar was nowhere to be seen in that game, finishing with just one catch for three yards in a strange no-show on the big stage.
Now, Smith has the next Ohio State-Texas game already on his mind.
Jeremiah Smith 'Hungry' For Texas Rematch
This upcoming season, Ohio State and Texas kick off the season in a CFP semifinal rematch in Columbus, and all eyes should be glued to televisions.
Smith admits he is "hungry" and ready for this one, especially after last year's poor performance.
"I'm definitely hyped about this one, especially with how things went last year — things people saying about me, about that game I had last year," he said. "I'm definitely hungry for this one," Smith said via Chase Brown of Eleven Warriors.
Smith's weird one-catch day against Texas last year was quite the talking point, although head coach Ryan Day said it was "more about execution."
Still, the outing remains fresh in Smith's mind, and he is ready to start the 2025 season off strong against the Longhorns.
Can Jeremiah Smith Beat Arch Manning to Win the Heisman Trophy?
Another interesting storyline for the Texas-Ohio State game is an early Heisman Trophy battle.
Arch Manning, the heralded star quarterback, is finally getting his chance as QB1 in Texas. Smith, who broke out with 76 catches for 1,315 yards and 15 scores as a freshman, returns with even more hype and excitement around him.
As it stands, Manning is the leader in the Heisman Trophy odds from BetMGM, and Smith drops in at third behind LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier and Clemson QB Cade Klubnik.
But Manning is in his first year as the full-time starter, and playing in the SEC is never easy. Smith, on the other hand, put up video game numbers as a freshman and should once again be a top target in Columbus, even more so with Emeka Egbuka off to the NFL.
The Longhorns and Buckeyes square off at noon ET Aug. 30 in Columbus on Fox.
