Check out who earned wins at Jennerstown Speedway on Bill Awtey Tribute Night.
JENNERSTOWN — Jarred Barclay stole the show on Bill Awtey Tribute Night, Aug. 2, at Jennerstown Speedway. The Somerset driver captured his third victory of the season, winning a thrilling 50-lap Martella's Pharmacies Late Model feature.
Barclay started on the pole after recording the fastest time during qualifying. Veteran Barry Awtey quickly stole the lead from Barclay. However, following a caution 15 laps into the race, Barclay regained the advantage over Awtey, and led the field into the competition caution with 20 laps to go.
On the restart, Barclay maintained the lead. Will Hemminger passed Awtey for second. Barclay built a 1.6 second lead on Hemminger before the caution waved with eight laps to go for debris on the track.
A crash in the back of the field once again brought out the caution with three laps remaining. Barclay got the better of Hemminger on the restart and held on for the victory. Awtey finished third.
Barclay is just two points behind Awtey in the season-long points standings.
Adam Kostelnik collected his first win in his first start of the season in the Ron's Collision Center Street Stock 25-lap feature.
Points leader Casey Fleegle began on the pole and led until a caution came out with 11 laps remaining.
Kostelnik restarted on the outside of Fleegle and gained the lead. He stretched his advantage and topped Fleegle and Rick Meehleib, who finished second and third, respectively.
Erik Mauzy won a tightly contested Integrity Coatings Charger feature for his first victory of the season.
The Davidsville driver led all 25 laps, but had to weather two late cautions.
Mauzy paced the field until a caution waved with five laps to go. He took the lead once again on the restart but the yellow flag flew before the lap was completed.
Nick Niemiec passed Ken Burkholder for second on the next restart but did not have enough to run down Mauzy. Burkholder took third.
It is the second year in a row Mauzy led every lap of the charger feature on Bill Awtey Tribute Night.
Boswell's Doug Glessner collected his third victory of the season in the Stoystown Auto Wreckers Modified division.
It was a two-horse race between Glessner and John Fama.
Fama gave Glessner everything he could handle down the stretch of the 20-lap race, but Glessner would not be denied. Tom Golik finished a distant third.
Fama holds a 9-point advantage over Glessner in the points standings.
Brent Bickerstaff captured his first career win in the One Stop Auto Sales Pro Stock division. The former street stock competitor has been a model of consistency this season with nine top 5 finishes in 10 races.
Chris Brink finished second and Aaron Van Fleet took third.
Bickerstaff holds a 24-point advantage over Kyle Burkholder with six weeks remaining in the season.
Defending Somerset Trust Fast & Furious 4s division champ, Johnathan Haburcsak tallied win No. 1 of the season in a dandy to finish the night.
The Jerome driver took the lead from Seth Nedrow with seven to go and fended off points leader Cameron Ruggles to claim the win.
Ruggles finished second and Nedrow took third. Ruggles owns a 50-point lead over Nedrow in the standings. Haburcsak is 57 points back.
