Some good news and some bad news.

Chicago Sky rookie Hailey Van Lith has been forced to sit out two consecutive games due to a lingering ankle injury. The good news for the 23-year-old is that she has a chance to return to action on Friday when the Sky host the Golden State Valkyries at Wintrust Arena.

Hailey Van Lith Gets Optimistic Update

Van Lith’s official status heading into the Valkyries matchup is that she’s questionable to play. While there is no guarantee that she will suit up, the fact that she hasn’t been ruled out is a positive development for the Sky.

In 21 games played in her debut season for Chicago, Van Lith has averaged 4.2 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists and 1.1 triples in 13.8 minutes per game. She’s no star, but the former TCU standout has been providing quality minutes off the bench for head coach Tyler Marsh.

If Van Lith is ultimately ruled out against Golden State, look for the Sky to continue leaning on Kia Nurse and Rachel Banham in their backcourt as Ariel Atkins continues to be out with a leg injury.

Angel Reese Ruled out for Valkyries Game

The bigger news for the Sky, though, is the status of two-time All-Star Angel Reese for Friday’s matchup. Reese has already been ruled out for the game, and the fact that the decision was made over 24 hours before the matchup could suggest that there could be some concern here.

It is important to note that Reese played in Chicago’s last game—a 103-86 loss to the Washington Mystics on Tuesday—despite missing the previous two contests with the same back injury. It is unclear if she’s re-aggravated the back issue, but she will need at least one more game to heal.

Reese’s next chance to suit up will be on Sunday in a home game against the Phoenix Mercury.
