The Yankees continue to be active at this year's deadline, acquiring Rays infielder Jose Caballero in the final minutes of the trade deadline in exchange for top prospect Everson Pereira.

Caballero was seen getting hugs in the Rays' dugout, and will simply have to walk from the third base dugout to the first base dugout to join his new team.

It is the latest in a restructuring act by Brian Cashman and the Yankees, who added Caballero, Ryan McMahon, David Bednar, Jake Bird and Amed Rosario while subtracting Oswald Peraza and several top 30 prospects to do it.

Caballero is one of two speedsters on the Rays, with 34 stolen bases this year, one ahead of fellow outfielder Chandler Simpson, who has 33.

YES Network insider Jack Curry tweeted: "How about this? The Yankees have acquired Jose Caballero from the Rays for Everson Pereira and a PTBNL. Caballero will be pulled from Yankees-Rays game. He will only have to walk from the third base side to the first side to meet his new team. He’s tied for MLB lead with 34 SB."

Pereira, the return for Caballero, has always been strong in Triple-A, but disappointed in a brief stint with the Yankees in September 2023.

At the same time, the Rays dealt Caballero and acquired starting pitcher Adrian Houser from the Chicago White Sox, in the latest of a flurry of moves from the AL East in the final minutes of this year's trade deadline.
