Aston Villa Star Wanted By Al-Nassr In The Summer Transfer Window: What Should Villa Do?

Aston Villa have stabilised themselves in the Premier League over the past few seasons. Unai Emery’s side have performed better than expected on their return to European competition. Ollie Watkins’ goalscoring ability and Emiliano Martinez’s goalkeeping have saved them in several encounters. Pau Torres has also strengthened the defence, but this summer transfer window is now becoming a confusing one for Villa.

This time, the Birmingham club have so far invested only in young players – with names like Yasin Ozcan and Zepiqueno Redmond. Apart from this, Marco Bizot has been brought in as backup to Emiliano Martinez. In such a situation, the lack of experienced players are visible. The club need some big names to form a balanced team, but the reports are pointing towards something else, and that is a possible departure.

According to a report by French journalist Santi Aouna, Saudi club Al-Nassr are eyeing Pau Torres. Their goal is to find a replacement for Aymeric Laporte, who is moving to Athletic Bilbao. Although their priority is still Kim Min-Jae, Torres is seen as a strong option as an alternative. Talks are ongoing with the South Korean defender who has played for Bayern Munich, but if he does not come through, Al-Nassr could turn directly to Pau Torres.

The Spaniard has great experience in top-flight football. He won the Europa League at Villarreal and is now a key part of Emery’s defence at Villa. The 28-year-old centre-back’s positioning sense, advantage in aerial duels and passing ability make him a valuable defender. If Torres wishes to leave, it will be difficult for Villa to stop him.

What is likely to happen?

The Saudi offer could be a big turning point for the 28-year-old centre-back. Financially, this offer could be the biggest of his career. Al-Nassr are known for such deals. They have already attracted many big names by offering players lucrative wages and lifestyles. It will not be easy for Pau to ignore all of this.

The problem for Villa is that the Spaniard is the centre and fulcrum point of their defence. Emery’s plans revolve around him, but if Pau is willing to leave, Villa will have to manage the transfer smartly. Al-Nassr are in a strong financial position, and Villa should use this opportunity to make profits. In case of getting a good transfer fee, they can take care of their other needs with that money.

Sometimes accepting the player’s wishes proves beneficial for the club. It will be sad for Villa fans to see Pau Torres leave, but if the club can increase their squad depth with this transfer, then this deal could make sense.
