Serie A giants Inter Milan have initiated contact with Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku as they ponder a summer move, according to L’Equipe.
Nkunku has struggled to nail down a starting role at Chelsea since his transfer from RB Leipzig back in July 2023 for €60 million.
Despite moments of promise during the recently concluded 2024/25 season, where he registered 15 goals and five assists in 48 appearances across all competitions, fitness concerns and tactical suitability have limited his impact.
With four years left on his current deal, Chelsea are open to selling Nkunku this summer to make room for new signings, although Blues boss Enzo Maresca reportedly has no issues keeping hold of the 27-year-old.
Inter Milan’s interest in Nkunku is tied to their pursuit of Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman from Atalanta.
While Lookman remains their primary target, Inter are considering Nkunku as a viable alternative should negotiations for Lookman falter.
Inter recently had a €45 million offer for Lookman rejected, although the Nerazzurri are not giving up their chase yet.
They have already signed Ange-Yoan Bonny from Parma this summer but remain keen on more attacking reinforcements to ease the burden on Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.
Nkunku’s ability to operate across several forward positions would bring some tactical flexibility to Inter, who have lost Joaquin Correa and Marko Arnautovic and may soon part ways with Mehdi Taremi.
Nkunku is keen on a fresh start after a challenging stint at Chelsea, and a move to Serie A offers an opportunity to revive his career at a top European club.
