KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The No. 7 seeded Iowa State (22-9, 10-8 Big 12) women’s basketball lost to the No. 10 seeded Arizona State (24-9, 9-9 Big 12) Sun Devils 77-68 in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament.

The first quarter, despite both teams exchanging field goals in the first minute, saw the Cyclones go from down 3-2 to down 17-2 over the next 5:48. A 7-0 run saw Audi Crooks scoring four of her 21 points and Kenzie Hare connecting on one of her three 3-point baskets.

After the first 10 minutes, the Cyclones trailed 17-9.

The second quarter was slightly improved in terms of shooting for the Cyclones, who shot 25% from the field compared to 20% in the first quarter. In the first half, Iowa State hit just 6-of-26 from the field and 10-of-11 at the charity stripe. ISU went 3-of-18 from three in the first 20 minutes.

Arizona State held a 33-25 lead at the break.

The Cyclones finished at 36.1% overall from the field and 19.4% from three-point range. 

Trailing by 16 with 8:23 remaining in the fourth quarter, Iowa State mounted a surge thanks to Algona native Audi Crooks, who scored 17 of her team-high 21 points after half. 

Six points is as close as the Cyclones got for the remainder of the game.

Addy Brown led the team with 12 rebounds to go along with 13 points. Kenzie Hare and Jada Williams joined Brown and Crooks in double figures scoring, as they tallied 12 and 11 points respectively.
