2026 World Cup: Mexico reassures on security

In less than four months, the 2026 World Cup kicks off. Mexico is reassuring the football world about robust security measures throughout the tournament.

We are now less than 100 days away from the opening whistle of the 2026 World Cup. Mexican authorities have sought to allay concerns about safety amid heightened tensions in the country. FIFA representatives met with government officials this Wednesday to review organizational plans and the security measures set for the tournament.

Federal Secretary for Security, Omar Garcia Harfuch, was unequivocal. "Thanks to joint efforts and coordination between the federal government, states, and municipalities, the safety of both locals and visitors during the World Cup will be ensured," he declared.

President Claudia Sheinbaum also reaffirmed that "security is guaranteed," as Mexico prepares to host the World Cup opener at the iconic Azteca Stadium against South Africa.
