Staples remains one of two undefeated boys basketball teams this season.
FAIRFIELD - Mason Tobias scored eight of his 12 points in the second half to help lead the top-seeded Staples boys basketball team to a 62-48 victory over Ridgefield, allowing the Wreckers to capture their second consecutive FCIAC tournament championship Wednesday night at Mahoney Arena.
The Wreckers, the No. 2 team in the GametimeCT Top 10 poll, completed an undefeated regular and tournament season in the FCIAC, finishing at 23-0. Staples is one of two undefeated teams left in the CIAC, NVL champion Woodland is the other.
Sam Clachko finished with 13 points for Staples. Jayson Genova was the high scorer for Ridgefield (17-6) with 27 points. This was Ridgefield's seventh appearance in the championship game over the last 10 seasons.
