Following discussions of Manuel Neuer’s future after the club as early as the summer of this year, Bayern Munich looks set to promote Jonas Urbig to become the #1 goalkeeper at the club. The Bavarians would also like a tenured player to support and mentor the 22-year-old goalkeeper.

Sport Bild (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia) reports that Bayern has internally discussed the scenario of a Neuer retirement. Should the 39-year-old veteran hang up his gloves, Jonas Urbig would get his chance as #1 next season. As for the #2 role, the club is considering signing an experienced goalkeeper. Both Alexander Nübel and Daniel Peretz are for sale in the summer as they wouldn’t settle for a backup role.

Interestingly, there’s no mention of Sven Ulreich. The 37-year-old trusty #2 was largely absent last year following the tragic passing of his son. His contract runs until the end of this season, and it is likely that he and Neuer will both leave upon the expiration of their contracts.
