Liverpool have had an incredible summer in the transfer window thus far. The club have added Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili for a combined total of £260m+.

But sporting director Richard Hughes isn’t finished yet. There are still plans to add Alexander Isak in ANOTHER British record deal - and a new centre-back is also reported to be on the menu.

Liverpool require additions in the centre-back position for various reasons. Virgil van Dijk is 34 and his contract expires in 2027. Sooner or later the Anfield club are going to need a successor.

Then there’s the Jarell Quansah sale. Liverpool did well to attract a bid of over £30m for the homegrown talent - but his place in the squad has so far been unfilled.

Liverpool's depleted centre-back options

And then we have Joe Gomez. The 28-year-old suffered an injury hit campaign last season and is once again on the treatment table. If Liverpool aren’t careful they could be understaffed in central defence by the time the season kicks off.

One other lingering issue remains.

Ibrahima Konate has got an expiring contract - which runs out in less than 12 months. If no new deal is agreed soon then it has been speculated that the Frenchman could be sold.

This problem, however, appears to be one that’s easing.

Konate restarts contract talks

That’s because the latest reports out of France state that contract talks between Liverpool and Konate are very much ON. It’s no secret that progress has been slow to this point - with Konate also being eyed by Real Madrid for a free transfer in 2026.

But now reporter Abdellah Boulma claims that Konate is “happy” at Liverpool - with widespread optimism that a deal can be agreed.
