If there was a running theme at this year’s NFL scouting combine, it was speed.

Nearly every position group set combine records for the fastest average 40-yard dash times this week, from defensive tackles to running backs.

The leader of the pack so far is Ohio State safety Lorenzo Styles Jr., who clocked a scorching 4.27 seconds for this week’s only sub-4.30 mark so far.

That’s the fastest 40 time recorded by a safety since at least 2003, according to NFL Network. And he ran that time one day after his younger brother, Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles, finished in 4.46 for the best time of the week at his position.

But there were plenty of eye-popping times run by prospects outside of the Styles family.

The leaders at each position include Missouri cornerback Toriando Pride Jr. (4.32), Arkansas running back Mike Washington Jr. (4.33), Arkansas QB Taylen Green (4.37), Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq (4.39), Ohio State edge rusher Arvel Reese (4.46) and Penn State defensive tackle Zane Durant (4.75).

Oklahoma’s Deion Burks leads all wide receivers so far at 4.31, with a second wave of prospects still set to run Saturday.
