Knicks reportedly extended Mikal Bridges for Giannis Antetokounmpo reason

The star Milwaukee power forward played a role in the Knicks extending Mikal Bridges Thursday.

The New York Knicks locked down small forward Mikal Bridges to a hefty four-year, $150 million contract extension Thursday, which included a player option for the 2029-30 NBA season.

However, it seems that the Knicks wanted to assure that one other piece of business was truly off the table before giving Bridges his extension.

According to Sam Amico of HoopsWire, the Knicks reportedly "got intel" that Milwaukee Bucks franchise star Giannis Antetokounmpo would not be requesting a trade out of Milwaukee before making the deal with their own small forward.

After the Bucks released Damian Lillard at the beginning of the month, and the way that the two-time MVP was acting on social media, such as unfollowing the team on Instagram, it seems like all signs were pointing to Giannis heading to a different team.

Antetokounmpo has been with the Bucks ever since the team selected him with the 15th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Since then, he has led the team to the 2021 NBA Championship, earning Finals MVP honors, was awarded the 2018-19 and 2019-20 NBA MVP, has been named an NBA All-Star since the 2017 season and a first-team All-NBA team member since 2019, fully cementing his status as one of the game's finest.
