NFL Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher’s son impressed Lincoln Riley on first day of fall camp

As the 2025 College Football season looms, fall camp officially began Wednesday for programs across the country. In LA, three athletes stood out to head coach Lincoln Riley on day one.

Kennedy Urlacher

With his last name, it’s not exactly easy for Kennedy Urlacher to fly under the radar. His father Brian Urlacher is a 13-year NFL veteran Hall of Famer and former Chicago Bears linebacker, but Kennedy is eager to make a name for himself as a safety for USC.

“My dad's advice to me is just to keep working,” Urlacher said Monday at Trojan football media day. "It's important to always keep your head down and work hard to accomplish what you want to do."

Urlacher made a solid impression on head coach Lincoln Riley during the first day of fall camp Wednesday.

A three-star recruit, the sophomore spent his first season of college ball with Notre Dame, appearing in 14 games and recording 12 tackles, but entered the transfer portal in the spring. When Urlacher visited USC, secondary coach Doug Belk was impressed with the safety’s lack of interest in anything other than football.

“He wanted to spend his time on football,” Belk said. “As a coach, that's the most intriguing thing you can get on a visit. We pretty much spent his whole visit talking ball.”

The 5-foot-11 safety brings more than just focus.

“He's got a tremendous skill set,” Belk said. “He's twitchy, athletic, explosive and really physical. We're excited about the traits. But as a football player, he's very intelligent. He loves football. He's a lot like Kamari where he's very quiet and reserved. But when he plays, he has another switch. He has experience playing as a freshman at Notre Dame, so I'm looking forward to seeing him in training camp, seeing how he fits in the scheme. He's a great persona as well with great energy. His teammates love him. He's a football guy, and I think he's going to be one of those guys like Christian Pierce that plays physical.”
