Tensions rise as one rising finisher wants her shot at the biggest name in women’s boxing

Fresh off a triumphant return to her hometown, Claressa Shields continues to elevate women’s boxing to new heights. Shields dominated Lani Daniels in a clean sweep at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, where a sold-out crowd roared behind the self-proclaimed GWOAT. With every punch landed and every round banked, the atmosphere made it clear—her events are becoming massive spectacles. But as Shields celebrates another milestone, a dangerous knockout artist is calling her name.

Shadasia Green, the 16-1 power puncher with 11 knockouts, has her sights set squarely on Shields.

Green recently edged out Savannah Marshall in a high-stakes unification bout streamed live on Netflix, where she captured both the WBO and IBF super-middleweight titles. The fight not only delivered fireworks but also earned Green a $250K Fight of the Night bonus. And now, with momentum at her back, she’s ready to aim higher.

‘Come on over to MVP and let’s get this fight situated—it’s bigger than us,’ Green said on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. ‘Let’s keep leading the path for women’s boxing.’ Willing to move up to heavyweight, Green reminded fans she once campaigned there while training alongside Shields during their Team USA days.

But it’s that same past that ignited the tension—Green revealed she joined Christina Hammer’s camp before the Shields fight without notice, something Shields took personally. Green later explained that the opportunity helped provide for her family, as she was compensated for the sparring work. Their friendship has never recovered.

Negotiations could get tricky. Shields has spent nearly a decade with Salita Promotions, and her future remains uncertain. Her relationship with Jake Paul’s MVP Promotions hasn’t exactly been smooth either. But if the money—and the stage—are big enough, the GWOAT might just be swayed. As for Green, she’s made her message loud and clear: the time is now.
