The Phillies get some outfield depth.

New York Mets outfielder Harrison Bader

The Minnesota Twins have traded outfielder Harrison Bader to the Philadelphia Phillies.  The 31-year-old is hitting .258 on the season, with 12 home runs and 38 runs batted in.

Bader is in his first season with the Twins after playing 143 games with the Mets a season ago. Bader started his MLB career with the Cardinals from 2017-22.

His best season came in 2021 when he hit .257, clubbed 16 home runs, and drove in 50 runs. Last season, he topped his RBI high, getting to 51.

His final game with the Twins came on Wednesday. In that game, a 13-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox, Bader went 2-for-3 and struck out once. During the month of July, he hit .290, with five home runs.

Philadelphia is 1/2 game behind the New York Mets for the National League East lead. The Phillies are 61-47 as they start a three-game series at home against the Detroit Tigers.

Bader grew up in the Bronx and debuted in 2017 before spending some time with the hometown New York Yankees. He won a Gold Glove in 2021 as well.

In return, the Twins get outfielder Hendry Mendez and right-handed pitcher Geremy Villoria. Neither player was highly regarded in the farm system.
