It's only been a month since the 2025 NBA Draft, with the rookies still months away from playing their first minutes in the league. However, the hype for future draft classes is already ramping up as we inch closer to the start of the new season.
AJ Dybantsa of the BYU Cougars is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, with everyone waiting to see how his freshman season plays out. The 6-foot-9 forward has people excited about his do-it-all skillset and how he could be the league's next great forward.
The Cougars know they have a one-of-a-kind athlete on their roster and showed that off with their latest Instagram video about Dybantsa. The forward displays his max vertical in the clip, and fans are blown away by what they saw.
Fans Were Stunned To See AJ Dybantsa's Max Vert
"Above the backboard is crazy," said one fan in the Instagram comments.
"Bro might just become the first to be able to kiss the top of the backboard," said one fan on X.
"Dude is a freak athlete," said another fan.
"What are they feeding this new gen?" said a fan who was stunned by what he saw.
"Celtics tank next year and get him, I’m shaking," said one over-optimistic Celtics fan.
"This is not normal," said another shocked fan.
AJ Dybantsa Revealed His Final Vertical Measurement
The video is impressive, and the screenshots of Dybantsa's jump at its maximum are going viral across social media. But what was the final measurement from the 18-year-old BYU star?
Dybantsa revealed his final measurements on his Instagram, claiming he recorded a 40.5-inch vertical.
That would have been tied for No. 3 in the 2025 Draft Combine for max vertical, with the Brooklyn Nets' Drake Powell (43 inches) and Tahaad Pettiford (42 inches) ranking ahead. He'd be tied with Memphis Grizzlies guard Javon Small.
This will be re-measured next year if Dybantsa declares for the draft, giving him a year to potentially make this jump even more explosive.
He's still growing, and another boost to his impressive athletic prowess would make him one of the most impressive prospects we've seen.
BYU Cougars Looking To Make Noise Next Season
The Cougars will head into the 2025-26 season with another star bound for the NBA. They're coming off a successful season under head coach Kevin Young, advancing to the Sweet 16 in March Madness for the first time since 2011.
The squad saw Egor Demin get selected as a lottery pick in last month's draft, with Dybantsa projected to become the school's first-ever No. 1 selection. To make that happen, the squad needs to live up to the lofty expectations the fanbase has after last season's success.
Dybantsa will hope to help the Cougars advance to the Final Four for the first time in school history, especially with strong teammates such as Baylor transfer Robert Wright III, Richie Saunders and more.
