As the Yankees' slide into mediocrity hits its second month, and with Aaron Judge potentially out of the outfield for the entire year due to his right elbow injury, calls for the Yankees to make creative moves by Thursday's deadline are only mounting.

These have included speculation on top Yankees hitters like Ben Rice, Trent Grisham and Paul Goldschmidt.

The latter was named in a report by SNY's Andy Martino, along with a surprising name that likely was not, or should not, be on the Yankees' trade radar.

Per Martino, the Yankees floated the names of Goldschmidt and outfielder Cody Bellinger in trade discussions last week as they look to reinvent their roster.

Trading Bellinger seems nonsensical given that the 2019 MVP is experiencing an offensive resurgence and is potentially on track for a Gold Glove, all while clearly loving his time in the Bronx.

With Judge out of the outfield and the lineup for at least another week, the Yankees need to hold onto their second-most-productive hitter unless they get an offer they simply can't refuse.

They should only consider trading Bellinger as part of a sparkly package deal - a Mitch Keller/David Bednar or a Joe Ryan/Jhoan Duran sort of deal.

Even in that case, they would have to feel very strongly about their return - Bellinger only trails Judge in home runs, OPS, and runs scored, and is third in OPS+. Bellinger has a $25 million player option for 2026 that he will likely opt into, and with Judge not getting any younger, Yankees fans should be concerned by the prospect of a Bellinger trade.
