Liverpool and Newcastle United are reportedly ‘progressing well’ in talks over the transfer of Alexander Isak.
Isak has informed Newcastle of his desire to leave the club and is currently training alone after not joining the Magpies on their pre-season tour.
The Swedish striker is training at the facilities of former club Real Sociedad, as he agitates for a move to Liverpool.
Liverpool have communicated their willingness to offer a British transfer record sum for Isak, eclipsing the £116m paid to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the transfer window.
Isak scored 23 league goals last season to finish as runner-up to Mohamed Salah for the Premier League’s Golden Boot. After three seasons at St James’ Park, the forward is keen to join Liverpool, where he feels he can compete for the Premier League and Champions League.
Sky Sports are reporting that personal terms have been agreed between Isak and Liverpool, while talks between the clubs are ‘progressing well’.

Newcastle want to sign a replacement before sanctioning the sale of the 25-year-old but have been frustrated in pursuits of Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. The Magpies face rival interest from Manchester United for the latter.
