The Indiana Fever asserted their dominance over the Chicago Sky on Sunday with a convincing 93-78 win in the latest chapter of their rivalry. The Fever, who were without Caitlin Clark due to a lingering groin injury, improved to 3-0 against the Sky this season following Sunday’s victory.

One of the standout performers from the game was rookie Makayla Timpson, who dropped a career high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. The former Florida State star also added four rebounds, an assist and three steals in what was her best outing as a pro thus far.

Makayla Timpson Answers the Call

Timpson’s big performance came after head coach Stephanie White decided to run with her during the game. Timpson logged 22 minutes against the Sky, which represents a new career-high mark for the 6-foot-2 forward-center.

Veteran frontcourt player Damiris Dantas was a healthy DNP in the game, and even White herself stated that Timpson’s strong play was a factor in Dantas logging zero minutes in the win.

Timpson was at the podium after the game following her career performance, and one of the questions the 22-year-old was asked was about how the coaching staff have put their trust in her. Timpson made sure to express her appreciation to White and Co.

“It means a lot,” Timpson said. “You know, it just puts a lot of confidence in me.

“And also my teammates. I mean, they have my back and they encourage me each and every practice, each and every game, just to stay ready and stay focused.

“I just wanted to be who they need me to be out on the court.”

Timpson also shouted out her Fever teammates for their support. As she implied in her statement, she would not be in her current position had it not been for their guidance.

In 17 appearances for Indiana thus far, Timpson has averaged just 3.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 8.0 minutes per game. It would not be a huge surprise if she gets a bigger role in the rotation moving forward after her breakout performance against Chicago.
