Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim delivered his assessment of his side’s performance in what was a decisive 4-1 win over AFC Bournemouth.

With Man United maintaining their 100% record in the Premier League Summer Series to date, Amorim expressed his satisfaction with his team, making special mention of a select few players.

Everything is coming together

“I think we improved in the physicality of the game,” Amorim explained. “We are more competitive, and that is really important. And we suffered a lot last season. We had some issues in the corners, defending, but we attack really well. We have a lot to do, but it’s a good feeling seeing the team play like this.”

Star performers

Asked about Rasmus Hojlund’s performance and opening goal, Amorim responded: “For me, it’s more than a goal. For him, it’s more important, the goal.”

“We need goals… The way he’s fighting for the ball sometimes, we are pressed. That is so important for us to play better so he is doing a good job.

Amorim also took a moment to talk about Patrick Dorgu, another strong performer on the night with a goal and an assist to his name.

“He looks more like he belongs at Manchester United, and that is hard to do at 20 years old. He is so powerful, he’s getting his technique, he’s defending so well, pressing so well, so I’m really impressed with him.”

The United boss also spoke of the strong chemistry between captain Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, with the former sitting deeper than he usually does.

“I think it was really important, the connection with Amad. The ability to control the ball inside and outside to maintain possession.”

Hojlund’s future

With Hojlund being linked with a transfer away from United by the press, Amorim seems to have revealed what will happen with the Dane this summer, particularly as the club’s links with Benjamin Sesko heat up.

Prior to the match, Amorim explained: “The important thing is Rasmus [Hojlund] is scoring goals. I don’t know what will happen until the market is closed. The important thing is the strikers here are working really well, are improving, are helping the team.”

It appears that Amorim would rather exercise patience with Hojlund and do his best to unlock the Dane’s potential rather than ship him out this transfer window.
