Western Amateur: Cameron Kuchar misses cut, Boca Raton's Frankie Harris advances

The match play portion of the Western Amateur will be televised on ESPN+ on Friday and Saturday by Thaler Media.

Tequesta resident Cameron Kuchar shot a 4-over 74 Wednesday to end his appearance at the 123rd Western Amateur at Skokie Country Club in Skokie, IL.

Kuchar, the son of PGA Tour veteran Matt Kuchar and a rising senior at Jupiter High School, opened with a 69 Tuesday, but made three bogeys and a double bogey, offset by a lone birdie, to miss the 36-hole cut by four shots.

Frankie Harris of Boca Raton had a 72 to finish at even-par 140 for a tie for 40th place and advanced to the final 36 holes of stroke play. Also moving on was John Daly II.

Jonathan Bale of Jupiter (72) was tied with Kuchar at 143. The top 44 players and tied advanced to Thursday’s 36-hole conclusion of stroke play. The top 16 players advance to match play on Friday and Saturday.

Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Chick Evans (eight victories) are among the eight World Golf Hall of Famers who have won the Western Amateur.

The match play portion of the Western Amateur will be televised on ESPN+ on Friday and Saturday by Thaler Media. Lowell Thaler is a North Palm Beach resident.
