An Eastern Conference contender has emerged as one of the favorites to sign Ben Simmons this summer.
East Contender Named Among Favorites to Land Ben Simmons This Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Most of the top free agents entering the NBA offseason have already signed new deals to either return or sign with a new franchise.
Despite this, there are still multiple players available on the free agent market that would be great additions to a contenders bench.
One of those players is former first overall pick Ben Simmons who remains unsigned as the offseason approaches August.
Of course, Simmons is no longer the All-Star caliber player that he was earlier in his career with the Philadelphia 76ers but he is still a solid playmaker and defender who would be a great addition to a contending team’s bench this offseason.
There have been many teams linked to Simmons over the last few weeks and among them are the New York Knicks who currently have one roster spot open heading into next season.
According to Bovada, the Knicks have the third-best odds (+375) to sign Simmons this offseason.

The Boston Celtics are the favorite (+185) to land him and they are followed by the Phoenix Suns (+255) and Sacramento Kings (+375).
For the Knicks, using their final roster spot to add Simmons on a potential veteran’s minimum contract could be a solid move for the organization, especially with them focusing on upgrading their depth this summer.
Of course, the Knicks have already added Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele in free agency to upgrade their bench and there is no doubt that Simmons would also be a massive upgrade.
The 29-year-old can play the point guard position an also both forward positions and would help improve the Knicks’ playmaking and defense in their second unit.
Despite this, New York could look elsewhere to fill their final roster spot due to Simmons’ injury history, which has been a major issue for him over the past handful of seasons.
While that may be the case, Simmons would still be a solid addition to their bench if they elect to target him in free agency.
