Coach Prime's message to Shilo and Shedeur.
Deion Sanders’ Heartfelt Message From Hospital to Shilo and Shedeur Revealed originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Well Off Media, a production company founded by Deion Sanders’ eldest son, Deion Jr., posted a behind-the-scenes YouTube video on Monday showing the coach in the hospital, moments before undergoing bladder removal surgery for an aggressive form of cancer.
Although team and national outlets have detailed Sanders’ diagnosis and treatment in recent days, the video captures an unguarded exchange between father and sons, Shilo and Shedeur.
Sitting in the hospital room, Sanders scrolls through his phone, pauses and says, "Texting the boys. It's their first day of practice today and I'm excited," before he begins typing, "Love you, son, and proud of you. I can’t wait to hear how today went."
His message was to rookie safety Shilo Sanders, kicking off his first day of camp with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, reporting to the Cleveland Browns minicamp.
"It’s kind of the first day we’ve been apart for a long time," Sanders recalls in voice-over, admitting the previous 24 hours were the hardest of his life.
"Last night was tough, yesterday was tough, because I had to make a will. It’s just not easy… at all… to think that you might not be here. But you want to make sure everybody’s straight."
The clip then cuts as nurses prepare him for the operating room.
Now entering his third season at the helm of the Colorado Buffaloes, Sanders has guided the program to a 13-12 record, including a 9-4 mark in 2024–25 and an Alamo Bowl berth.
Colorado’s offense climbed into sixth nationally in passing (318 yards per game), while the defense had the sixth most takeaways in college football (27).
Behind Sanders’ high-profile recruiting and player development, the Buffs have moved from Pac-12 basement dwellers to Big 12 contenders in one year’s time.
