Vikings captain praises fellow former Michigan Wolverine J.J. McCarthy

A couple of Jim Harbaugh's students are reunited.

Wolverines stick together.

At least, the Minnesota Vikings’ ones do. Former Michigan safety Josh Metellus never suited up with J.J. McCarthy in Ann Arbor, but he is already excited to do so in the NFL this fall.

Here is what Metellus said about McCarthy on “NFL Spotlight With Ari Meirov:”

“He’s definitely due for a big year. And I know he’s excited to get back out there. I just was talking to him. He spent some good time this offseason, getting away, but making sure his mind was still right. So, I’m excited to see what he’s going to do this year. I know he’s going to do good things. We got a great coach for him. He doesn’t have to do too much, but besides just get the ball to the guys we need to get the ball to and do him.”

Metellus, now entering his sixth season in the NFL, all with Minnesota, knows a thing or two about McCarthy’s weapons. He has to battle with the likes of Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson, and the running back tandem of Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason regularly in practice.

All of them, particularly Jefferson, should aid McCarthy as he transitions from the Big Ten to the NFC North. Playing in one of the most quarterback-friendly systems under head coach Kevin O’Connell will help, too.

McCarthy has always been a mature, cerebral quarterback, and his skill set should thrive under O’Connell’s tutelage. Metellus will serve as a captain yet again, and it could be a very successful season for this pair of Wolverines.
