Arch Manning earns another preseason honor.
Arch Manning's Rising Stardom Cemented With Latest Watchlist Nod originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
After two years of waiting in the wings as Quinn Ewers led Texas to back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances, it is now Arch Manning's time to shine in Austin.
The nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning has had fans calling for him to start for two years after he was ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the 2023 class, but outside of two starts where he filled in for an injured Ewers, he was mostly used in mop-up duty or as a wildcat quarterback.
With Ewers off to the NFL, Sarkisian named Manning the starter a couple of months ago, and somehow the hype has gotten even stronger. He is the betting favorite (+800) to win the Heisman Trophy on FanDuel, and is already racking up a handful of preseason honors.
The latest came on Monday, as Texas announced that he and running back Tre Wisner were named to the Maxwell Award watchlist.

The award is given to the best all-around player in college football and is voted on by sportscasters, writers and coaches from around college football.
The last five winners go as follows:
- Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State (2024)
- Michael Penix Jr. QB, Washington (2023)
- Caleb Williams, QB, USC (2022)
- Bryce Young, QB, Alabama (2021)
- DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama (2020)
In limited action in 2024, Manning threw for 939 yards and nine touchdowns through the air, and four on the ground.
He and Texas will open the season against the team that ended their season last year, as they'll head to Ohio State to take on the defending champion Buckeyes.
