The San Diego Padres are one of the teams that MLB insiders have been hearing a lot about in the lead-up to the MLB trade deadline. With the team looking to make a few moves for a postseason push, the Padres could have a very active deadline.

According to ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan, the Padres are a team he sees as "toying with doing something big" at the trade deadline.

Whether that's a blockbuster move for an outfielder, catcher, or a deal that ships off Dylan Cease or Robert Suarez, Passan believes the Padres could be cooking up a huge move at the deadline.

Less than 48 hours from the deadline, the Padres have been named in many different rumors. From their interest in Jarren Duran to the Padres' fielding interest in Cease, there are a few moves the team could pull off at the deadline.

But, with Duran likely staying with the Boston Red Sox, the Padres have to pivot elsewhere. Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox is a potential deadline option for their left field hole.

San Diego has also been linked to Atlanta Braves slugger Marcell Ozuna to be the team's new designated hitter. This would force Gavin Sheets to remain in left field, with Ouzna taking over full-time at DH for San Diego.

Passan believes that A.J. Preller and the Padres are toying with making a big move. While he doesn't speculate on what kind of big move could be coming, this comment from Passan is worth paying attention to.

With needs in left field, designated hitter, catcher, and potentially the bullpen and starting rotation, if Cease or Suarez is dealt, the team has a lot of options at the deadline.

With a few veterans in the final years of their deals, like Cease and Suarez, the Padres could look to make an all-in move to bolster the roster for a deep postseason push in 2025.

With less than two days left before the deadline passes, the Padres will be a team to watch. Whether it's a blockbuster acquisition or a trade sending Cease or Suarez out, the Padres are a team that Passan believes could do something big at the deadline.
