The Detroit Tigers have started to play better baseball after a rough start to the month of July. At 63-46, they now are tied for the best record in the American League.

They also still have a nine-game lead in the AL Central over the second-place Cleveland Guardians. They were sellers at last year's trade deadline before going on a second-half surge and capturing a Wild Card spot.

This year, Detroit will be buying in hopes of enhancing its roster for a postseason run. Third base is an area that could use some work.

Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report proposed the idea of Detroit trying to acquire Eugenio Suarez from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"With Zach McKinstry hitting .150/.282/.333 in 71 plate appearances over his last 20 games, third base looks like the most glaring hole on the roster. It would also be a homecoming of sorts for Suárez, who began his pro career with the Tigers when he was signed out of Venezuela in 2008," Reuter wrote.

Suarez has put together a strong season at the plate. Despite hitting just .248, he has a .321 on-base percentage and .577 slugging percentage.

The 34-year-old All-Star also has a 3.3 WAR and has hit 36 home runs with 87 RBI and an .898 OPS. He could instantly boost the Tigers lineup if acquired.

The Diamondbacks have already committed to selling this year at the trade deadline, having dealt away Josh Naylor and Randal Grichuk. Detroit has a strong farm system and could easily pull off a blockbuster deal.

Suarez began his career with the Tigers back in 2014. He was ultimately traded to the Cincinnati Reds the following offseason.

We'll see if Detroit gives Arizona a call on Suarez.
