The hierarchy at Ajax has been left divided over Chelsea’s €40 million offer for Jorrel Hato, according to De Telegraaf.
The Premier League outfit have already agreed personal terms with the 19-year-old, and are now trying to strike a deal with Ajax.
The Dutch giants were originally hoping to receive an offer around €55m to €60m for Hato.
But there is now reportedly a split at Ajax, with some members of the hierarchy feeling they may be forced to accept a smaller fee for their prized asset.
The Eredivisie outfit are enduring financial issues and they cannot afford to risk Chelsea pulling out of the deal.
Enzo Maresca’s side have been busy in the 2025 transfer market. They have already signed Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens to add strength and depth to their ranks ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
The West Londoners are now pursuing a deal for Hato, who is comfortable playing as a centre-back and a left-back.
Despite his young age, the defender has already proven his skills in the Dutch league. He has made 111 appearances in all competitions, with four goals and nine assists to his name.
Hato is known for his intelligence on the ball and calmness under pressure. He possesses strong tackling, passing and ball-carrying skills.
Given Ajax’s need to sell and the player’s eagerness to join Chelsea, a move is expected to happen soon.
