USI men still eligible for the OVC Tournament

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Despite being (2-12) in Ohio Valley Conference play, the University of Southern Indiana men mathematically aren’t eliminated from making the conference tournament.

The Screaming Eagles are currently sitting in the tenth place in the conference and would need to make it up to the eight spot to qualify for the tournament. So USI would need to win their final six games and get a whole lot of help from other teams above them in the standings to reach the postseason tournament.

Unfortunately for head coach, Stan Gouard and his coaching staff the struggles to get all the players on the same page and playing with the needed sense of urgency hasn’t happened yet.

“It’s hit and miss,” said Gouard. “You know we need everybody to do it at the same time. You know you have a couple of guys here and there, but it needs to be a united front where everybody is feeling that. And it’s not across the board. You know the coaches are trying to get these guys ramped up in a different head space and sometimes it doesn’t register with everybody. But you know as coaches we still have got to pour into them. We believe that it’s going to work out and hopefully it’ll catch these guys’ attention at some point. It hasn’t caught them this far, but hopefully some point here pretty soon, why not today?”

Southern Indiana will return to the floor Thursday, February 12th, against Tennessee State at 8 p.m. The game is scheduled to stream on ESPN Plus.
