Is this how the Lads will line up tonight?
Saturday’s game at Arsenal was probably our best away performance of the season – but the fact is we came away on the wrong side of a 3-0 defeat and our away form needs sorting out. At the Stadium of Light, we’re a different proposition, and under the lights we’ll be hoping to continue that good run of home form.
It’s going to be a difficult game tonight, of course, for all of Liverpool’s struggles this season, they’ve got quality individuals; however, on paper, their away form suggests we should be getting something from this game. There were lots of good performances on Saturday, so barring injuries and fitness concerns, I don’t envisage many changes – in fact, just one…
Goalkeeper: Robin Roefs
Roefs couldn’t do much with any of the Arsenal goals on Saturday, and will be in goal tonight.
Defence: Nordi Mukiele, Dan Ballard, Omar Alderete, Reinildo
Alderete and Mukiele both conceded possession needlessly in the build-up for Arsenal’s first two goals, while Reinildo should have done better with the third. Regardless, this back four is our strongest, and Le Bris is a manager who shows faith in players, so no changes here.
Midfield: Trai Hume, Noah Sadiki, Habib Diarra, Enzo Le Fee, Nilson Angulo
We’ll go with the same formation we played at Arsenal, and which worked at Anfield before Christmas, too, with Hume on the right but dropping in to enable Mukiele to overlap. With Xhaka’s continued absence, Sadiki, Diarra, and Le Fee will play centrally – and I think we’ll see a full debut for Nilson Angulo. With Liverpool’s well-documented fullback troubles, I reckon Le Bris might throw a wildcard in, and Angulo is it.
Forward: Brian Brobbey
Brobbey will continue up front, and we need to make sure we use him better than we did in the first half at Arsenal. He’s brilliant at getting the ball into his feet, holding it up, and players in and around him, and he’s going to be massively important as we relieve pressure and look to build attacks.
