The teenager is living the dream right now.
Tommy Marques has been talking about life at Barcelona after making his first-team debut on Saturday against Real Mallorca.
The midfielder was a late substitute and became the ninth academy graduate to debut under Hansi Flick at Barcelona.
Marques says knowing the coach is willing to trust in youth is a huge motivation, while he also reveals how he’s been inspired by Frenkie de Jong.
“For me and for everyone who works here day in and day out, from the youth teams down, seeing that the manager trusts the homegrown players is one of those things that makes you work harder and want more,” he told the club’s media.
“I’ve been watching Frenkie for years, and years ago, Busquets was incredible. Watching him train every day is amazing. Learning from them is spectacular. We have to keep working, keeping our feet on the ground. It was a goal, but you have to be ambitious so that more days like this come.”
Marques also admitted that he’s still struggling to get his head around the fact that he’s made his debut and has been part of the first-team squad.
“I still haven’t processed it, it’s still hard to believe,” he added.
“Very happy, proud. A lot of things went through my head, as is normal. I was living a dream, a spectacular one. Even more so because it was at Camp Nou and at the club of my life.
“It’s a dream come true for a kid who started playing here, enjoying himself, having fun, and learning. I’ve been here for 11 years, and it’s everyone’s goal. It’s spectacular.”
Marques will be hoping for more minutes between now and the end of the season, with reports claiming Flick has already told him he’ll be part of the senior squad for 2026-27.
